Privacy Policy for Phonics Go

Privacy Policy for Phonics Go, operated by Lemona Limited.

Last updated: 5 May 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Lemona Limited ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you and your child use the Phonics Go mobile application ("Phonics Go", "the App").

Lemona Limited is a company registered in England and Wales, with registered office at The Workshop, 32-40 Tontine Street, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 1JU. We are the data controller for the limited personal data we process in connection with the App.

We have written this policy in plain English so that parents and carers can understand it easily. If you have any questions, please contact us at hello@lemona.uk.

2. Who the App is for

Phonics Go is designed to help young children (typically aged 3–6) learn phonics. The App is intended to be downloaded, installed, paid for and supervised by an adult — usually a parent, carer, grandparent, or guardian — who creates the account and manages the subscription. Children use the App under adult supervision.

Because children are the primary users of the App, we have designed it in line with the UK Information Commissioner's Office's Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code) and Apple's requirements for apps directed at children.

We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. All learning progress, profiles and content created by a child are stored locally on the device and are not sent to our servers.

3. The information we handle

We have deliberately built Phonics Go to handle as little personal data as possible. Here is exactly what happens.

3.1 Information stored on the device only

The following information is stored only on the device where the App is installed. We never receive, see or store this information on our servers:

  • Child profile names (which can be a nickname or any name the adult chooses)
  • Phonics learning progress, including which sounds and words have been practised
  • Stickers and other rewards collected within the App
  • Photos taken inside the App for the purposes of recognition (see Section 3.3 below)
  • Any preferences or settings configured within the App

3.2 Information we do receive

When you download Phonics Go from the App Store, Apple may share the following with us through App Store Connect:

  • Aggregated, anonymous download and usage statistics (e.g. number of downloads, crash reports, session counts)
  • Subscription status (active, expired, in trial) linked to an anonymous Apple transaction identifier — not your name, email, or Apple ID

We do not receive your Apple ID, email address, name, or payment details. Apple handles all payment processing.

3.3 Photos and the camera

The App may include a feature that uses the device camera to recognise letters or objects as part of a learning activity. When this feature is used:

  • All image processing happens on the device using Apple's built-in frameworks
  • Photos are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party service
  • Photos are stored only in the App's private storage on the device and can be deleted by the adult at any time

3.4 No analytics or advertising SDKs

Phonics Go does not include any third-party analytics libraries, advertising frameworks, or tracking SDKs. We do not serve ads. We do not build profiles of users.

4. How we use information

The limited information described in Section 3.2 is used only to:

  • Understand how many people use the App (in aggregate)
  • Identify and fix crashes or bugs
  • Manage subscription entitlements

We do not use any information for marketing, advertising, or profiling.

5. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with any third party. The only parties involved are:

  • Apple: handles payment processing, App distribution, and provides us with anonymous aggregate analytics through App Store Connect
  • No other third parties receive data from the App

6. Data retention

Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. On-device data persists until the App is deleted or the adult clears it through the App's settings.

Anonymous aggregated analytics from App Store Connect are retained for up to 24 months for trend analysis, after which they are deleted.

7. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, and objection. Because we hold virtually no personal data, most of these rights are straightforward:

  • On-device data can be deleted by you at any time by removing profiles or uninstalling the App
  • If you believe we hold any personal data about you and wish to exercise your rights, contact us at hello@lemona.uk

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

8. Security

All on-device data is protected by the device's built-in security (encryption at rest, app sandboxing). Since we do not transmit personal data to our servers, there is no data in transit to protect on our side.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where practical, notify users through the App or App Store release notes.

Terms of Use for Phonics Go

Terms of Use for Phonics Go, operated by Lemona Limited.

Last updated: 5 May 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and Lemona Limited ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in England and Wales, with registered office at 32-40 Tontine Street, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 1JU. They govern your use of the Phonics Go mobile application and any associated content or services (together, "the App").

Please read these Terms carefully before using the App. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. If you do not agree, you should not use the App.

These Terms are written in English and the relationship between you and us is governed by the laws of England and Wales unless otherwise stated below.

2. Who can use the App

The App is intended to be downloaded, installed, paid for and supervised by an adult aged 18 or over — typically a parent, carer, grandparent, or guardian. Children under 18 may use the App, but only under the supervision and responsibility of the adult who has accepted these Terms.

By using the application, you signify your acceptance of these terms, and you confirm that:

  • you are aged 18 or over;
  • you are the parent or legal guardian of any child who will use the App, or you otherwise have the authority of a parent or legal guardian to allow a child in your care to use it;
  • you accept responsibility for any use of the App by a child under your supervision.

If you are using the App on behalf of an organisation (for example, a school or nursery), you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

3. Your subscription

The App is offered on a subscription basis. Subscriptions are sold and managed through Apple's App Store using your Apple ID.

  • Pricing, billing cycles, and renewal terms are shown in the App and/or on the App Store at the point of purchase.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, in line with Apple's standard subscription terms.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policy. We do not process payments or refunds directly.

We may offer a free trial period. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will begin and you will be charged in accordance with the pricing shown at the time of sign-up.

4. What you get

A subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the App on devices linked to your Apple ID, subject to these Terms. You do not own the App or its content — we (or our licensors) retain all intellectual property rights.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App or any part of it;
  • use the App for any unlawful purpose or in a way that infringes any third party's rights;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any systems or networks connected to the App;
  • redistribute, sublicense, or make the App available to third parties other than children under your supervision as described above.

6. Content and intellectual property

All content within the App — including but not limited to text, illustrations, animations, audio recordings, characters, and software — is owned by or licensed to Lemona Limited and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any App content without our prior written consent.

7. Availability and updates

We aim to keep the App available and up to date, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. Updates may be required to continue using the App and may be delivered automatically through the App Store.

8. Limitation of liability

The App is provided for educational entertainment purposes. While we take care to ensure content quality, we do not warrant that the App will meet specific educational outcomes.

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other matter for which liability cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

9. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the App. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms. On termination, your licence to use the App ends immediately.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or App Store release notes. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where you are a consumer resident in another part of the UK, in which case you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
